Buffalo Bleu Cheese Turkey Burgers
Not Your Same ‘Ole Burger!
Turkey is not just good on Thanksgiving! I do a lot with turkey because it gives me an alternative to red meat. Turkey doesn’t have to be dry either! Ground turkey can be a very flavorful option to almost any dish requiring ground beef or pork.
Buffalo Bleu Cheese Turkey Burger Recipe
Ingredients (Makes 8 burgers)
3 lbs. 85% lean ground turkey
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
5 tablespoons milk
2 egg whites (lightly beaten)
4-6 cloves minced garlic
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/8 cup chopped parsley
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
8 hamburger buns (your choice of style)
Bleu cheese crumbles
Wing sauce of your choice
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Step 1: Chop fresh parsley and onions and mince the fresh garlic.
Step 2: Sautee onions over medium heat in olive oil until translucent and tender (about 5-7 minutes). Add garlic and sauté another thirty seconds. This is just enough time to cook off the rawness and allow the flavor of the garlic to mellow. You'll know it's done when you can smell the garlic oil infusing into the mixture.
Step 3: In a small bowl, soak bread crumbs in milk.
Step 4: In a medium bowl, mix ground turkey, egg whites, soaked bread crumbs, onions, garlic, parsley, salt and pepper.
Step 5: Divide the mixture into 8 portions and flatten into burger patties. Generously season with salt and pepper.
Step 6: Grill patties over medium heat until the internal temperature of the patties are at least 165 degrees. Melt bleu cheese over the top and drizzle with Buffalo sauce.
Step 7: Serve on buns with whatever garnish you choose! *Laurie’s Serving Tip: If you’re not a fan of “Buffalo style” you can choose to serve plain or with whichever toppings you prefer.
*Laurie’s Storage Tip: These burgers freeze VERY well. I make a large batch, patty, wrap in cellophane and freeze so whenever I need a quick meal, I pull one out, let it defrost and grill or fry it up!
